“Five lives down?” – asks the IB Ministry.

“Five lives down?” – asks the IB Ministry.

The history of broadcast media dates down to 1924, beginning with a private radio service in Madras (Chennai). In the same year the British Government granted a license to the privately owned Indian Broadcasting Company to open radio stations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata). Later in 1936 it was placed under the Department of Communication and was renamed as the All India Radio (AIR). AIR further went on to become an independent body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcast, after India gained independence.

Broadcast media, in 1959, took a major step further with the introduction of television in the nation. Initially television was not really an area where the government wanted to make heavy investments as they felt that it was a way too expensive a medium for the majorly poor population of India, and television had to work its way out to prove the government’s view wrong. Television Broadcast started in September of 1959, as part of AIR service, and programs were telecasted twice a week for an hour a day on topics like rights and duties, health, traffic and road sense, etc.

It was only in 1982 that the first national channel, the government owned, doordarshan was broadcasted, and it took the nation by storm with its epic shows “Ramayan” and “Mahabharat”. Doordarshan enjoyed it’s “solo player in the market” status for about a decade till the launch of Zee Television in the 1990’s which led to entry of many other such channels (namely, Sony Tv and Star Plus).

This was all that was needed to make television a household concept. The very fact that television was so rapidly spreading across the nation made the government feel the need to levy some sort of a regulation on this broadcast media, hence The Cable Television Network Regulation Act came into existence in 1994. This act was mainly formulated to put a check on the content of various foreign programs and advertisements which was not really in sync with the culture of our nation and the government felt that there was a serious need for the filtering of such content which was being broadcasted nationwide and was being viewed in innumerable households by just as many age groups.

After this act, every now and then the government has tried to draft bills to regulate broadcast media, but sadly they have remained just that – bills!

Some such bills are as follows:

The Broadcast Bill of 1997 proposed to establish an independent authority and to create a level playing field for indigenous broadcasters. Sadly, it did not get past a joint parliamentary committee set up to examine the legislation after it was tabled in Parliament.

The Communications Convergence Bill of 2000 was aimed to create a single regulatory authority (the Communications Commission of India) to deal with advancements in information and communications technology, this also could not move any further than remaining an ignored bill.

The Broadcasting Services Regulation Bill of 2006 gained a lot of public attention and was extremely criticized for its horrendous attempts to empower the government and it’s representatives to as much as to cripple the broadcast media, hence this bill also remained a piece of paper.

Talking about today, the government has drafted the 5-violation norm for television channels as a base for the renewal of their licenses. This states that all channels are provide by a license for a period of 10 years, after which this license has to attain a renewal, which would be considered only and only if the channel has not violated the terms and conditions of the program and advertising code on more than five occasions.

Now, the question, which is buzzing in my head, is, who decides what exactly is “violation”? Will the government decide? Will it be an independent body? Or is it the programmers and advertisers? Actually it would be or could be anybody BUT the viewers!

Why is it that when we are the ones who are eventually going to sit in our houses and watch on our television sets the shows that we like, we get no say in deciding what is appropriate to show and what is not?

I Believe that in a democracy like ours, the government and other public bodies are actually formulated to voice our opinions but I rather feel gagged by these very same bodies who are hell bent on taking every decision by themselves, based entirely on their personal discretion of what is acceptable and what is not, instead of trying to find out the changing trends of viewership and the level of acceptance of the broadcasted content in today’s educated, modern day society.

Another Beautiful Dream

I dreamt of you again last night

Your face so fair and smile so bright

You reached out and held my arm

With a promise to protect me

From every possible harm.

I smiled to myself again in sleep

So happily engrossed in my dream so deep

I dreamt of you again last night

You held me in your arms so warm and tight

You looked me deep in my eyes

With such undying passion

That I just couldn’t pull away

From your captivating attraction

Your arms got tighter around my waist

And your soft pinks lips upon mine

Became an unforgettable taste

I closed my eyes in a starry daze

And let a content smile cross my face

Today, I woke up to a beautiful morning

Because your presence has made my life so reassuring,

I wish to dream of you every night

Because, it fills my heart with absolute delight.

For My Knight

Our love has become a dangerous game

They wont even let me speak your name

I always thought that we would forever last

But they are hell-bent on making you my forgotten past

Our love has become an endless maze

I’m lost and broken in an agonizing rage

Come, take my hand and guide me through

I’m losing this battle, and to win, all I need is you

Your love has become my persuasive strength

It’ll hold me together right till the end

Come, kiss my eyes and make me see

That whole new world where we can fly free

My love for you will never die

As much as they might want to try

I’m ready to play this dangerous game

If you’re my knight and I’m your dame

Audi Sr. - My Angel from Above -

In June of 2008 god bestowed me and my family with a special blessing in form of a 2 month old pug puppy, we named him Audi.

My family was half n half divided on basis of being dog lovers and dog haters , but after a lot of persuading and cute faces my family agreed to bring home a puppy . Of course, provided that he wouldn't poop and pee his way all around the house.
After a lot of searching , we found the perfect pug puppy , 17th June 2008 he entered his new home in a small blue basket. Oh i remember every moment every expression on his face so well!! My poor babie was soo scared !!! But he found his comfort in my arms ..very soon the little devil was racing all around the house jumping in and out of every nook and corner. He was full of vigor!
As the days passed he enticed every dog hater of the family into being a dog lover to such an extent that my mom started babying him as if he was her third born! That little devil was such a charmer!
My life had suddenly become so perfect so beautiful ! He had become my world! he would follow me everywhere , he would sit on my lap all day long, even when i was on my computer, he would growl n threat to bite any other animal who tried coming closer to me and would ignore me for ages if i played with another dog , but of course it was completely okay for him to play with other people , what a MALE CHAUVINIST PUG he was !
While i was busy enjoying my life with my new brother I completely failed to notice the blow which was coming our way.

Mid of Feb 2008 , my baby fell sick suddenly , he wouldn't walk , he wouldn't bark , he wouldn't even walk around..we took him to the vet ...we took him to numerous vets..we did everything we possibly could! but we couldnt stop what was approaching .. by the coming week his health worsened he couldnt even sit straight on his own and one night he just couldnt sleep he kept crawling upto me n kept licking my face kept cuddling up to me ..he didnt sleep the whole night neither did he let me sleep .. I could sense whatw as coming ..but i didnt want to accept it ..the next morning we took him to the hospital and the doctor told us they couldn't really do anything for him..he was suffering from a disease called hemi-vertebrae , which is a disease dogs have by birth and is uncurable. After a couple of hours his condition started worsening , he could hardly breathe , he was in my lap he constatly looked at me as if he was pleading me to let him go , to let him off the pain , i knew what he wanted , the doctor wanted to give it another try , wanted to give him another shot of live savers , but i refused, i couldnt put my baby through it anymore , i ahd to stop being selfish and let my baby go and i did just that!

After a couple of sobs in my lap ..my angel flew to heaven. But he promised me to be their with me in my heart and soul forever, he promised to look over me from heaven . My darling baby has now become my guardian angel.
He had left this huge hole in my heart and in my home , t was getting impossible for us to cope with it, our angel couldn't see us troubled, so he sent us his replica in form of a new pug puppy my sister brought home ,we named him Audi jr. He is now a year and half old and is by god's grace very healthy, After all he has the blessings of our angel Audi Sr.

Audi Sr. I will never forget you. You will always be a part of me , you changed me and my life forever and it was for the good. I LOVE YOU FOREVER !

Frozen In Time

Greetings World !!

My Blog Frozen In Time is not solely about me or my life but also about LIFE in general . This Blog is a medium for me to portray what things seem to be from my vision, what i feel how i feel about life - my life - your life- life which exists around me around us .
For me Life is all about Chilling while living ...if I cant relax and relish every moment I am living then whats the point in living anyway? I believe in living the moment and not really worrying about the past or the future , Of course it maybe sensible for us to think about the future and try making it secure but what's the point if we just keep worrying about it and stop living today? what memories will we have to sit back and think about in our "secure future" ? Hence, from today through this blog i will be "freezing in time" every memory every moment that i cherish , thoughts and ideas that cross my mind, everything which i want to share with the world.
Also, i would love to read what the world what YOU have to say , what you cherish, absolutely everything and anything u wish to share !

So people, I heartily invite you all to come "Freeze" some moments with me !
Love, Anisha
